Early 2009 Art Exhibits and Shows
If you missed any of my early 2009 art exhibits and shows here's some photos to keep you in the loop.
Mary Richardson's Annual Harvey House Exhibit
January 2009
Usually
Mary
exhibits the work of her students, but this year she changed things up and invited her vendors to fill the
Harvey House
with their work. It was a fun showcase of diverse work. It was a rather last minute thing for me so I put up several pieces I had on hand. I put up an 8 x 10 ink drawing of the band Rush I had done for a friend's recording studio some years ago and four Photographs: "Zebra", "Thunder Impersonates Mr Ed", "Western Swallowtail" and "Gorgone Cresentspot".
Belen Art League Spring Show
April 25th to May 16th 2009
We had 137 pieces in our annual Spring art exhibit at the
Harvey House
by 47 artists. The 3-D artists are getting more involved.
Our judge
Natasha Isenhour
had comments about everyone's work and gave out many ribbons. I walked away with a
Second Place
in Professional Photography for my piece titled "Reflections", an abstract of a windmill sculpture, made out of mixing bowls, that was at Traditions. My other two shots, all 11 x 14's, were also abstracts of sculptures at Traditions.
Art Along the Railway
May 9, 2009
I had displays at three of the venues participating in Art Along the Railway, but personally appeared at the
Belen Art League Gallery
. It was a beautiful day. We had many visitors.
Mary Richardson
told me her jewelry swap brought in many customers. Overall it was quite a successful event.
Belen Art League Photography Show
July 18th - August 1st
The photography show was wonderful with twelve artists displaying a variety of subjects. Regina Corritore, UNM art instructor and member of the
Belen Art League
,was the judge. Many visitors came to the reception, including two photographers that joined the league.I entered three 8 x 10's that I already had made up, but hadn't displayed here. They were "Magic Hour", a downtown Albuquerque shot from the Petroleum Club taken during the warm glow just before sunset, "What's in Your Backyard?", my best sandhill crane shot to date, and "Outward Bound", a shot of a freight train leaving the Belen Switchyard that I took because my brother is into trains.
Read what the Valencia County News-Bulletin wrote about the photography show.
Corrections: The gallery normally displays drawings, photography, pottery, jewelry, ceramics, fiber art, sculpture and decorative art as well as paintings. I draw in pencil, charcoal and ink, but I do not paint. I've always seen things differently, that's why I got into art, photography and crafts. Photography did not cause me to see the world differently.
