The Belen Art League was founded in 1956. It is a non-profit organization comprised of artists primarily from Belen and other parts of Valencia County New Mexico. The members cover a diverse range of media and styles. Art League meetings are held at the gallery the 2nd Saturday of each month from 10 am to noon. Visitors are welcome to attend. The league hosts several functions each year including the ever popular Valentine Tea and Concerts in the Park. They also sponser an annual scholarship for a deserving Belen High School art student. The Belen Art League - Gallery & Gifts was first opened in 2003. It is located in the former senior center and RSVP office buildings, in the Heart of Belen, at 509 E Becker Avenue. The gallery is open Wednesday through Sunday from 12:00 to 4:00 pm. The members of the Art League, who display their work at the gallery, take turns operating it. It houses an ever changing display of wall art, pottery, sculpture, jewelry, etc. It is home to the league's Valentine Tea and Music in the Garden. There is a classroom where several of the members teach classes, which are open to the public.

Well Hi to all............. As you know by now we have a new President for the Art League, Chere' Penne' Holz.........makes me very happy..........she will do a great job, we are committed to helping her in any way we can.....just as you did for me. Dawn and I and Penne will be hanging the red (and formally) blue rooms starting the 15th of January. That means you must bring in your new (or rotating work) by the 14th of January. So, from the 1st of January to the 14th of January, please bring in your flat art for display. Leave it against the wall on the floor in the red room....east side or west side will be fine. Do not take any thing down from walls as we will do that.....we always have to recycle some of the work. The 14th is our next general meeting at 10:00, Saturday. Remember: New art, bring in between the 2nd. and the 14th. of January, that's two whole weeks. We start to hang on the 15th., nothing accepted for display after the 14th. I am happy to announce the development of a little (always difficult) area, specifically for original miniatures. Same rules apply, three to five pieces of framed and ready to hang art. This was a special project of mine, to spotlight a big talent in the Art League, segregate it for the enjoyment, and appreciation of the community. Laura Anderson and her husband are to be thanked for the execution of this powerful improvement. Thanks so much to you both.........So please bring in your original small works, pastels, oils, watercolors and other mediums....5"X7", 45sq." I believe, plus frame, is the max. It's located on North wall in the (formally) blue room (now white). Successfully covers that unsightly pipe, and we had all the materials (almost). At least plywood and paint. May get courageous in the future and paint it a naughty color. Call me for questions. I am so happy about our new board and wish to welcome everyone......... Our next big event is the Valentine Tea.........Irene has again, graciously agreed to chair, and her skills / time are greatly appreciated. Thanks as well to all the 2011 board members and committees for their time and many good ideas to make our Art League the best, the VERY best, there is. So grateful............ Quanta P.S. Wishing us all a healthy and enthusiastic 2012.....Q - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - I am looking forward to being president this year and to all the challenges and potential positive changes that we, as a league can implement!
